It is located just north of the capital city of Austin near Austin and Round Rock, and has a population of 44.764 people at last count (2012). The town was established by settlers from Ohio in 1850 on land sold to them by the state for $2 an acre ($1/acre after 1854), and it was incorporated as a city in 1953.
